Had a funeral luncheon there. Very easy to work with. Easy to schedule. The young man who was our main waiter was very kind and hard worker. Did family style-soup, chicken, beef, mashed potatoes, vegetables, sherbet. Everything was delicious. Had three members who needed gluten free foods and they had a menu with options for them. More than enough food. Nice private room. Grateful for this easy option at a difficult time.

Had a family member's birthday celebration we had about 27 people so they offered us half of the patio area. Food was family style and very good and quite of an assortment. Servers were spot on and met our requests. If you are looking for a place for a party don't hesitate to check The Great Escape out

Greetings my Foodzies, tonight we decided to try a restaurant that we have passed by numerous times. The great escape on Irving at 9540 w Irving Park rd. in Schiller Park. This is a unique restaurant that has been around for years. The property has a rich history (see the picture I have posted with the story). The restaurant's bar area is very rustic with a bar that was hand carved in 1889, very impressive. TVs have been added to draw in a people who want to eat and have a drink while watching TV. Also a gaming section in the bar area. Music is old school 50-60s, our server Mareen was pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable. We started with Grilled Calamari it was grilled nicely but could have used a few more seconds to get a little more char flavor. It was also missing the signature balsamic. Glenda chose the Rigatoni in Vodka sauce with chicken; the chicken was scarce and the sauce was not the traditional sauce it had an odd flavor, not terrible but not what we expected. With a cup of lentil soup, tasty but needed a little extra salt. I chose the baby back ribs and broasted chicken (these dishes they are known for) the chicken was very good, crispy skin and very juicy. The ribs were tender but a little dry. The BBQ sauce was the recipe is the recipe of the owner's grandfather. It was a Kansas City type sweet sauce with a nice smoky flavor (as a first time patron we were given a bottle to take home). I had the baked French onion soup topped with mozzarella, I'm used to Gruyere, Swiss, or Gouda but ut was very good. I give this restaurant 4 stars, let me know what you think. Ciao, Ciao for now.

My wife and I met a friend for a mid-week lunch at his recommendation, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant looked well-maintained, and the restrooms were clean. Tables were promptly cleaned and reset after customers left. It's the kind of place Robert Irvine would hate, but we loved: there was dark rich wood everywhere, an antique Chicago bar, bright lighting, and carpeting to absorb sound. As a person with hearing difficulty, I appreciate that sound isn't echoed and reverberated so that it drowns out conversation at my table. The owners take pride in the restaurant's appearance. (2 stars) We were seated immediately, but after our initial order for drinks, it took a while until we could order food. I wish the hostess would have taken a more proactive role in the pacing of service for all of the tables in our area; she mostly just stood around at the register. The wait time from ordering food to getting it was average, but the food was very good when it arrived. It certainly tasted as if it had freshly cooked, not reheated after being frozen.(1 star) We had to have a busboy flag down our server after 10 minutes of waiting to order. We also had the hostess ask her over when we were ready for dessert. HOWEVER, there is a patio area at the restaurant, too, and there were only two servers for the entire building. I suspect there was a scheduling problem; both servers were always hustling. We were able to talk to our server about their delicious food when she brought the coffee, and it was clear that she has a passion for her job, so we left a good tip. (1 star) Based on these factors, my overall rating is 4 stars. We're definitely going back to try some of the other tempting items and specials on the menu, like mustard-encrusted bass.

Last weekend, we hosted a baby shower for 30 people in the private room. It was absolutely wonderful. The room was well decorated and the tables were already set up when we got there. Our party was at 1 pm but we were able to come in at 11 am to get everything ready. Being doting grandmas, we added a lot of our own decorations. We did a buffet table with appetizers. It was all pub food (as we requested) and each tray's food came out properly cooked and fresh. It all was delicious. The staff was friendly and professional. They did everything they could to make sure we had a great time. The cost was very reasonable. We chose trays of 25 or 50 from about 20 choices. We paid for the trays but there was no room charge. The only per person charge was for nonalcoholic drinks - less than half of their regular drink price.

Delightful old school dining in a neighborhood near O'Hare. The Great Escape is far enough from O'Hare that you avoid tourists and trendiness and the up charges that brings, close enough to grab a 10 minute Uber and enjoy a nice meal in a classic atmosphere. Service is on par, helpful and pleasant. Food is tasty, ample portions. The French onion soup is cheesy! Specials change regularly . There's a dining room, bar seating and they do banquets and luncheons. Plenty of parking in back.

What a wonderful dining experience! This place is just what I hoped it would be. Great food, good service and nice ambiance. I had one of the specials, which was roast pork shank with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The pork was tender, moist and falling off the bone. Potatoes and veggies were done just right. My companions had a salad, chicken Parm and another one had the pork tenderloin. All generous portions and tasteful. Service was good. The bar is great. We had a drink while waiting for our companions to arrive. A big plus for Guinness on tap! All in all, a great place to dine.

I picked this place for my birthday lunch. It has a nice interior and a great atmosphere. The antique bar is beautiful. They spaced the customers with a table in between when possible, that's a nice touch. Our waiter, Jake, was awesome. She had their chicken pot pie. It was like a fresh pot pie in a freshly baked bread bowl and she loved it. I had the Dijon bass and it was excellent despite my initial misgivings. The flavors and textures were perfectly balanced. Their rice is well seasoned and delicious too. Their vegetables were fresh but a bit cold. My French onion soup was rich and tasty with a huge chunk of mozzarella,. Her salted caramel brownie was pretty amazing. I got spumoni mostly for nostalgic reasons and it was really good. Great place with decent prices and wonderful food.
